The updated toolkit has been strengthened and refined through a series of pilot case studies with 6 councils, capturing practical learning, real‑world challenges and what works on the ground. It’s designed to support local authorities to:

This event for local planning authority councillors was held on 2 April 2025 to show cabinet members, portfolio holders and ward members how they can help address the nature emergency and deliver nature recovery.
From 2022-24, we ran a number of events for local authorities as part of the first phase of our Nature Recovery project.
PAS held three regional all-day in-person roadshow events in March 2024 for local authority officers to find out more about the draft nature recovery toolkit we’ve been developing, the resources that have been produced so far and how to use them. Slides and recordings are available.
We ran a series of workshops for local authorities with a focus on biodiversity net gain and nature recovery from October through to December 2022.
The recordings and slides from the events are now available on our event page. These included updates for officers and members, plus sessions on policy and strategy and BNG in development management.
We run a number of other events for local authorities as part of our LPA Biodiversity Net Gain Capacity and Skills project.
