“The Government is right to focus on widening access to excellent culture and strengthening public confidence in an independent Arts Council England.

Devolving the visitor levy to local areas will enable significant investment in the visitor economy, boosting local attractions and tourism businesses, say councils.

“This investment is positive for communities across the country, which will help cultural institutions stabilise, address urgent maintenance needs, and begin to plan for growth rather than simply survival.

“We endorse the clear recognition of Arts Council England’s vital, ongoing role in supporting local culture alongside councils.

“Councils stand ready to support their communities to be active and stay healthy.

"The Government must consider further support for advice services like the BIPC network alongside bespoke finance options that help businesses to access finance and growth advice."

Government must take action in the Spending Review to put council funding on a sustainable footing and ensure that they can continue to deliver a wide range of services to their communities.
