Dingley's Promise resources for families
Dingley's Promise have worked with and provided guidance to families of children in the early years with SEND for over 40 years. They understand that caring for a child with SEND can be isolating, confusing and challenging. The charity recognise the barriers which families face and the team work with families and responce to individual needs to overcome the challenges and barriers they face, reduce isolation and improve confidence in the future.
Contact’s Helping Hand service is an evidence based model offering intensive family support, using a peer-led, community based model. It provides early intervention support to parents of children aged 0-18 years, for example for those on waiting lists for a neurodevelopmental assessment. Learn more.
- Contact professionals involved in the project are ‘Experts by Experience’, i.e., parents of neurodivergent children. Parent feedback emphasises this is valued highly.
- Co-produced and person-centred service plan and delivery: parents jointly choose topics for group session workshops each term. Parents are offered flexible timings.
- Take a preventative approach to helping families to avoid reaching crisis point and empower parents to support their children in the long term
- Creating a sense of community via peer support
- Removing barriers for parents with English as an additional language
