Direct payment recipients and practitioners talked openly in the workshops about the barriers they face in relation to direct payments, and what would make the experience of direct payments better for everyone involved in delivering and receiving them. Demonstrating the success of direct payments is essential to supporting staff and people who draw on care and support to have confidence in using direct payments, PSWs and finance managers should.

  • Listen to the opinions and experiences of direct payment recipients and talk with them about how those experiences can be improved where necessary.
  • Coproduce clear ways to measure the success of direct payments that are person-centred and focus on outcomes.
  • Share local success stories of people living good lives.
