An inspiring celebration of local government apprenticeship talent.
In this annual event, participants from across the country compete in an online challenge day to become the Local Government Apprentice of the Year. Each year all councils in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are encouraged to send one apprentice or more, to take part to make this a truly inspiring celebration of our apprenticeship talent.

Calling all Level 2 and Level 3 apprentices…
Are you a Level 2 or 3 apprentice in local government looking to push yourself and to test your skills and capability? Are you interested in challenging and developing yourself alongside others in the same position? Would you like to stand out and be recognised amongst your peers?
Then this event is for you.
Don’t miss your chance to shine! The Local Government Apprentice of the Year is an exciting event providing the opportunity for you to learn, network and showcase your skills, expertise, and initiative. You will work in virtual teams to experience the opportunities, risks, and challenges involved in delivering successful local government services, in a developmental environment.
Each year, the event is themed around a topical issue, such as climate change, where apprentices were supported by development leads to experience the opportunities, risks, and challenges in creating a local response to a global issue.
Hear why previous participants would recommend taking part in the event:
The Apprentice of the Year was a bit nerve-racking at the start but once you get in to it, its not that bad. You get to meet people all other the country in similar roles and my team won!
After joining Apprentice of the Year I gained a lot of recognition of my talent; I've been awarded learner of the year and was awarded for runway apprentice awards.
I would definitely recommend this to other people because its widened my knowledge of the different areas of the council and its created other job opportunities.
