Joint circular No. 145 – HMRC mileage rate
Dear colleague
HMRC has recently announced a change to the Approved Mileage Allowance Payment which has been increased from 45p/mile to 55p/mile, and which is backdated to 6 April 2026: Travel — mileage and fuel rates and allowances - GOV.UK
This change applies to casual users of cars and vans for the first 10,000 business miles and 25p/mile applies for each business mile over 10,000.
This change will be reflected in the PSC Handbook, part two, section 7, Travel and Subsistence, clause 3.2 relating to casual car users.
There is no change to the Approved Mileage Allowance Payments for motorcyclists or cyclists, which remain 24p/mile and 20p/mile, respectively.
