This insight project was developed to get a national temperature check of safeguarding adults’ activity during April 2022-March 2023, surrounding the impact of the cost of living, hospital discharge and winter pressures.

Care and health career academies are relatively new initiatives, and the national picture is constantly evolving. This project was undertaken to develop a better understanding of care and health career academies in England. It aims to share emerging learning on the development of academies and insights as to what good looks like.

This workbook has been designed as a distance learning aid to support councillors to plan for and develop mentally healthier communities.

This ‘must know’ guide provides background on the Care Quality Commission (CQC) assessment process for lead members and includes information on the background, the process and how to prepare for the assessment. This guide will be updated as we learn more about the assessment process and lead members’ role in it.

This workbook is aimed at helping councillors to understand the signs of stress and to develop strategies to deal with it, as well as building up their own personal resilience in the role.

This report highlights quantitative and qualitative adult social care workforce data showing challenges in recruiting, developing and retaining staff across the different adult social care specialisms, and increasing pressures facing adult social care teams.

The framework focuses on the development of 'housing with support' for people who are Care Act eligible, as well as people with moderate or low needs who are ineligible for statutory services. 

This resource brings together some of the existing tools for audit, review and assurance to support sector led improvement in safeguarding adults.

The resource has been developed in response to conversations with, and feedback from principal social workers (PSWs), chairs of national and regional PSW networks and the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services regional leads. It has also been informed by learning from the pilot sites, and tools and techniques from the worlds of coaching and learning and development.

In March and April 2024, the LGA sent an online survey to lead members for adult social care at English single-tier and county councils, to gather their insights on the impact of the 2014 Care Act a decade after receiving royal assent.
