“Tooth decay is largely preventable, yet it remains the most common oral disease affecting children and young people across England.

“We are pleased the Government has increased the public health grant for councils, acting on our concerns over the significant funding pressures public health teams have been under to maintain vital services such as sexual health services, smoking cessation programmes and drug treatment.

“These stark statistics should act as a wake-up call about the impact of alcohol on our general health, including for those with alcohol-related conditions, such as reaching out to people who have not yet been in treatment.

“This survey paints a deeply concerning picture of the challenges faced by families with babies and young children. Rising levels of need and complexity, coupled with a decline in the health visiting workforce, are leaving many without the critical early support that can transform lives.

“The announcement of an independent review of adult social care marks a potentially important step in addressing the significant challenges facing the sector."

“The places where we grow up, live, and work have a significant impact on our health.

In its submission to the consultation on the 10-year plan for the health service, the LGA says that a standalone plan which prioritises and recognises the full value of adult social care is crucial to giving the Government’s ambitions for our NHS the best chance of success.

“Tuberculosis is a preventable and treatable disease which disproportionately affects those who are the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in society." 

Childhood obesity is one of the biggest public health challenges we face. However any efforts to tackle the causes of obesity need to be part of a whole systems approach.

“People with substance misuse issues need effective support and treatment, which councils are committed to providing.
