Overview

This theme considers the other council services which may be involved with – or may be able to help and support – people seeking information and advice. These include:

  • Children’s social care
  • Adult education
  • Housing
  • Blue Badges
  • Libraries
  • Community services
  • Digital inclusion teams/initiatives

Working together effectively with these services can help ensure that you are giving consistent information and advice, that the other service is aware what ASC can do for residents, and in many cases could help the other service to provide information and advice or help and support on your behalf. Other council services can also act as your ‘eyes and ears’, identifying people’s needs before they contact ASC for information and advice or a care and support needs assessment.

Other council services will sometimes be the first to spot a potential safeguarding concern. As part of engaging with them on information and advice, consider whether they have a clear understanding of adult safeguarding – including less commonly understood aspects such as self-neglect – and understand what to do if they identify a concern.

It is also important to consider the role of elected members and the contact they have with residents in their ward/division. Members should be aware of the information and advice available and be confident sharing it with residents whenever appropriate.

Points to consider

Ask other services about the enquiries they regularly receive. How much overlap is there with people approaching ASC for information and advice?
